Who pays the fine wheel

Nobody wants to own up, so let the wheel own up for them. Put the names in, spin, and whoever it lands on is paying into the kitty. Free, and it takes about ten seconds.

Type, paste or delete to change the wheel. It redraws as you go, and your list is kept on this device only. Up to 200 entries.

When to reach for it

  • Somebody clearly did it but nobody will admit to it.
  • The whole back four was at fault and picking one feels harsh.
  • A fine needs paying and you would rather the wheel took the blame than you.
  • The gaffer wants a volunteer and there are no volunteers.
  • Two players are blaming each other and neither is budging.

Why a wheel settles it better than a vote

A vote is a popularity contest. The quiet lad who never says much ends up carrying it, and the loud one who actually did it talks his way out. A wheel has no opinion, no memory and no favourites, and everybody can see it is fair.

It also kills the argument dead. Once the wheel has spoken there is nothing left to debate, which matters more than it sounds when you are stood in the rain and everyone wants to get home.

Make it hurt a bit less

Some squads spin for the amount rather than the person. Put the prices on the wheel instead of the names, so the guilty party knows they are paying but not how much until it stops. Others put a couple of get out clauses on there, a Let off or a Half price, which gives the wheel a bit more drama.

Both work. The entries box is just a list, so whatever your club has decided, you can put it on the wheel.

Or keep a proper tally

A wheel picks a name. It does not remember that Big Mike has now been picked four weeks running, and it will not chase him for the money. That is the job the Fine Club app does: a rulebook of fines and prices, a running total for the kitty, a leaderboard of the worst offenders, and the same wheel built in so a fined player can gamble their way out instead of paying.

FAQ

Questions about the wheel

Does this handle real money?

No. It picks a name and nothing more. No money moves through this page, and there is nothing to connect. How your club settles up is entirely up to your club.

Can I weight the wheel towards someone?

Yes, by putting their name in more than once. Two lines means two wedges, which means double the chance. Whether the squad thinks that is fair is another matter.

Can I spin for the amount instead of the person?

Yes. Clear the entries and put your prices in instead, one per line, then spin for the damage rather than the culprit.

How do I stop the same person getting picked twice?

Tick Remove the winner after each spin. Once someone has been picked they come off the wheel, so you can work through the whole squad without repeats.

Your squad deserves a proper rulebook

The wheel is the fun bit. Fine Club is the rest of it: the fines, the kitty, the leaderboard and the end of season do it all pays for. Free, on iOS and Android.
